Photos from Lina

This is the photo that Lina sent of the tattoo that she got about seven years ago. My attention went immediately to it when we sat down to talk, but there was so much to say that I nearly forgot to ask her about it! I’m so grateful that I brought it up toward the end of our conversation, because the nature of the tattoo is so revealing of Lina’s approach to her life and what’s happening to her.

Lina tells us during the episode that she was taking pictures along the way so that she can help herself remember events and when they happened. She says that some of her memories have gotten somewhat mixed due to the stress involved in becoming a refugee and fleeing her homeland. This is the photo she took of her and the dog, Leo, while they were at her parents’ summer home in western Ukraine, shortly after the war broke out.
